When did you launch your zine? What inspired you to do
so? 1991. I needed something to
relieve the brain-deadening imprisonment of my lame 9-to-5 job.
I started it with Karin Falcone, with whom I had run a college
newspaper (The Stony Brook Press). We were both writing for Factsheet
Five at the time, which was also an inspiration to produce a
zine.
Why publish a zine? So you can write about whatever
the hell you want to write about and lay it out however the hell
you want to lay it out. Any general tips for aspiring zinesters? Don't bother trying to become
a "real" magazine unless (1) you are quite serious
about devoting the next few years to the project, (2) you plan
to sell lots of ads, and (3) you have the proper financing. Otherwise
you will waste money and go broke so fast it will make your head
swim. What's your favorite part of doing a zine? Delivering the boards to the
printer. In my other life, I'm a: Systems manager and freelance
computer guy. Fan
